I have co-opted several personal mottos throughout the years but my favorite two are:

“Set Yourself as the Standard.” – Chinese proverb

My dad’s sage advice when traveling is “Police the area.”

And finally, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” – Polonius in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

My mission is best expressed in one of Nat King Cole’s songs from 1948 called Nature Boy. The lyric goes “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn, Is just to love and be loved in return.” Because really, what else is there to life? So that’s my life’s mission through everything that I do or express creatively.

One of my motivations is clearly a commitment to alliteration, but also a love of learning. New things, how to do old things better, and being astounded by the unusual. My spirit animal is an owl, my DISC profile is C, and I fight to step outside of those comfort zones to challenge myself and become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Because in that space is where real learning takes place.
