Paris. What can I relate about Paris. Words can’t describe my experience in the City of Lights. Live jazz, that museum (Louvre), cuisine that was delicious, private clubs, Galleria Lafayette (the mall) but above all, the French people. They were lovely and don’t deserve the bad rep they have. The first night in Paris, my husband and I dined at a small French bistro and seated next to us was a delightful foursome. We struck up a conversation and learned one was a reporter for the New York Times, another a journalist, a Facebook employee and a banker for Barclays. After a wonderful chat of getting to know each other, we became fast friends and tagged along on their escapade to David Lynch’s private club, Silencio. A very chic crowd of members-only folks, we danced until the dawn of Easter morning and our new friends put us in a cab and sent us back to the W Opera hotel where we stayed. And that was just the first night.
While in Paris, we deferred to local bistros and brasseries to get our French cuisine on (see list below). The most delicious fish and exquisite-tasting wine, we satisfied our palette each day we were there. I couldn’t forget to have the melt in your mouth macaroons from Pierre Herme.
The Louvre was a must although a complete zoo during the holiday. We did stand in line with the masses of other foreigners to catch a glimpse of the Monna (Mona) Lisa, a “smaller in real life” experience but something to check off the bucket list.
Then, on to what could not have been more sexier than listening to live jazz in Paris just steps from the Eiffel Tower. A night of classic jazz with a lead singer from New York and a song dedicated to Christina, his Spanish girlfriend, in the form of a ballad no less. I took it as a ode to me as well since I felt like I was owning the town at that point. The next night, we checked out the cabaret at Crazy Horse; topless women dancing in Christian Louboutin shoes. Coulda skipped it but good to say we tried it. Beautiful shoes!
Although it was rainy and pretty cold the whole time, Paris was an unforgettably romantic experience. I fell in love with the architecture, the people, the food, and the fashion. When I return, my goal will be more culture, more food, to stroll the river Seine and fade into the fabric that is uniquely Parisian. Nothing like it anywhere!
