My husband and I were recently blessed to be guests at a beautiful and unique wedding this past weekend. It took place on a yacht in Newport Beach, California, an idyllic town itself requiring more adventuring at a later date. The couple exchanged their vows as the vessel sailed into the water with the setting sun as their backdrop for the “I dos.” It was one of the most romantic scenes I have witnessed live and it was so joyful to be a spectator as they began their new life together.

Weddings are pretty black or white. You either love going to them or wish you could escape them. I actually love weddings now. I become the blubbering crybaby during the ceremonies who I used to look at with disdain in a previous life. I love them especially because I now know, having experienced my own, the true meaning of having the event. If a couple wants to, they can just save the cash and profess their love in front of a judge and two witnesses and call it a day. But a wedding is a gathering of all the important souls within the couple’s sphere. Their purpose for being there is to summon loving positive energy to bless the two lovers as they unite together forever. It is truly an honor to be a guest at a wedding. You get to experience and be reminded of the power that is all knowing, all encompassing, all protective and what turns our planet. Love. It is the ultimate gift we are given and have the power to bestow on others. And the covenant of marriage is the most godly form of love.

So, as I watched my high school friend marry her betrothed, I held my own lover’s hand, said a prayer for the couple and thought about my little sister who is going to take the same step this November when she weds in Germany. I marveled at the gorgeous sunset framing the couple and also thanked God that I got to be one of love’s most honored guests.
