You may think you know that taking a break is important. Your brain knows it. But how often do you take a break, really? Do you wait until the weekend to sleep late and then run all of your errands, party, and then realize it’s Sunday night already and you need to be ready for another work week? Or do you wait until you have a trip planned and then take a break which consists of dealing with airport delays, transit woes and one day of relaxation on a beach before you have to turn back around and come back to life?
I have come to realize that we as humans need to take breaks more often. Mental health days are real. We shouldn’t just wait until we’re sick to take time off. And that time we take shouldn’t just be filled with DOING. We should include some BEING in that. Being with ourselves thinking, meditating, breathing, walking, praying…whatever works. This is the beauty of this decade: the realization that taking a break is deserved and should have space made for it every single day. I recently took two weeks off and had the most luxurious time just BEING. I talk about it in my latest podcast episode on Firsts Over Forty. Take a listen and let me know what you think. @firstsoverforty #firstsoverforty
