Sandra Bullock has been plagued by the best and the worst news coverage of late. While her professional life has soared to the pinnicale of what actresses and actors aspire to achieve, her personal life has plummeted to such an embarrassing and unfair low. Similar women with her profile, status, and exposure would have made a different move. We can all name those women whose husbands have done them dirty in the public eye and they hang around, stand next to the crappy bastards at press conference apologies and the like. Claim they are staying for love, for the children, for family, etc.
I don’t begrudge anyone the decisions they make in their personal lives but let’s keep it really real in 2010. Most of the women who do choose to stay with their cheating ass husbands do so less out of love and more out of comfort. They have become comfortable in their lives, their situations. They have become accustomed to the lifestyles their unions provide. The women they were in their teens and 20s were very different and less tolerant women than in the 30s, 40s and 50s. They have become numb to the drama. And they stay to maintain the life, the fascade, the dream, the picture perfect existence.
What is wrong with that you might ask? Well, how much is your soul worth? A mini mansion, membership t0 the local club, vacations with friends and family to keep up appearances? Which life do we want to live? Our “American Dream” or our authentic life? It is extremely risky and scary to attempt to live that authentic life. The real, the raw, the unedited.
So Sandra’s husband broke her heart. She waited to her ripe old age to marry and this guy fucks up royally. And she reacts authentically. She doesn’t just get back with him for image sake. She doesn’t stay for the kids or for her career. She leaves. She says she will always love his kids and stay in their lives. She follows her heart and adopts a baby from New Orleans to fill her home with love. And she takes a break to focus on what really matters. Now that is a celebrity I can respect.
